Department: Product Development

Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Product Development Engineer to join our lighting company. As a Product Development Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the design and development of innovative lighting products. Your expertise in creating, reading, and interpreting mechanical shop drawings and electrical schematics will ensure the successful production of high-quality lighting fixtures. Additionally, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance of manufacturing equipment to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.

Role Details:

  • Product design and development: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to conceptualize, design, and develop new lighting products. Create mechanical shop drawings and electrical schematics, ensuring adherence to design specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manufacturing equipment maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of manufacturing equipment used in the production of lighting fixtures. Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules, troubleshoot equipment issues, and coordinate repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Design validation and testing: Conduct thorough design validation tests to verify the performance, reliability, and safety of lighting products. Analyze test results, identify areas for improvement, and recommend design modifications or optimizations.
  • Request Processing: Receive purchase requisitions from various departments and stakeholders, ensuring that they are properly filled out and authorized according to company policies.
  • Supplier Communication: Communicate with suppliers to confirm order details, negotiate terms if necessary, and ensure that they acknowledge and accept the purchase order terms.
  • Order Tracking: Monitor the status of purchase orders to ensure timely processing, production, and delivery of goods or services. Provide regular updates to internal stakeholders about the status of their orders.
  • Issue Resolution: Address any discrepancies, errors, or issues that may arise during the procurement process. This could involve coordinating with suppliers, accounting, and other relevant departments to resolve problems.
  • Vendor Relationship Management: Build and maintain positive relationships with suppliers, fostering effective communication and collaboration for future procurement needs.
  • Continuous improvement initiatives: Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction within the product development and manufacturing processes. Implement best practices, lean manufacturing principles, and new technologies to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Collaborative teamwork: Work closely with engineering, design, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration of design concepts into production. Provide technical expertise and guidance to resolve design-related issues and optimize manufacturability.
  • Documentation and reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of design specifications, engineering changes, test results, and manufacturing processes. Prepare comprehensive reports, presentations, and technical documentation as required.
  • Regulatory compliance: Ensure that lighting products comply with relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements. Stay up-to-date with evolving regulations and certifications, incorporating them into the product development process.
  • Training and mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians. Conduct training sessions to enhance the technical skills and knowledge of team members.
  • Vendor management: Collaborate with external vendors and suppliers to source components, equipment, and services required for product development. Evaluate vendor capabilities, negotiate contracts, and maintain strong relationships to support the overall product development process.
  • Safety and quality assurance: Champion safety practices and quality control measures throughout the product development lifecycle. Implement quality assurance procedures, conduct inspections, and address any non-conformities or quality issues.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in product development engineering, preferably in the lighting industry.
  • Technical skills:
    • Proficiency in creating, reading, and interpreting mechanical shop drawings and electrical schematics.
    • Strong knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) software and other relevant engineering tools.
    • Familiarity with manufacturing equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Analytical abilities:
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve technical issues.
    • Ability to conduct design validation tests and analyze test results.
    • Attention to detail and a focus on ensuring product performance and reliability.
  • Communication and teamwork:
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
    • Ability to present technical information clearly and concisely.
    • Proven experience working in a team-oriented environment and managing multiple priorities.
