About the Opportunity: 

We are experiencing an exciting growth trajectory at E.B. Horsman, which creates new opportunities for entrepreneurial and self-driven individuals who are looking to make a meaningful and empowering impact on driving our company forward. 

We are looking for a Data Communication, Business Developer to focus on Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland. They are responsible for creating and maintaining positive customer relations by identifying technical product opportunities, supporting customer needs, providing up-to-date product information, and identifying solutions to any issues. They promote and recommend the best technical products for customers by maintaining current industry knowledge and striving to meet or exceed organizational sales targets. They will strategize and identify marketing opportunities, new product introductions, and pricing strategies.

Position Type/Schedule:

Depending on the successful candidate, they will have the ability to work out of our Divisional Office in Langley or Vancouver Island. This is a full-time position, Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week, with the ability for hybrid remote work following the probationary period. 

Work Location: Divisional Office: #215-9440 202nd St, Langley BC or Vancouver Island branch locations (Campbell River, Courtenay, Duncan, Parksville, Victoria) 

Key Responsibilities: 

Sales Growth: Works with Account Managers and Suppliers to develop a sales plan for strategically targeting new and existing customers. Develops relationships and elicits buy-in with the decision makers for targeted customer accounts that are identified as having a potential need for EBH technical products. Grows sales of technical products within the assigned branch network by understanding the customer business and presenting the technical product features, advantages, benefits, and application integration potential of partner manufacturers to both end users and the branch sales network. Liaises with projects group, Technical Manager(s), and Technical Inside Sales to keep up to date on technical sales opportunities and customer leads. Prepares reports analyzing key target account base progress and sales opportunities.

Customer Service: Creates and maintains a positive relationship with customers and ensures they have a good experience with EBH. Plans and executes regular sales calls to key customers to identify needs or opportunities and recommends technical products. Follows up on conversations or quotes with customers and ensures that previously completed projects are going well. Provides or facilitates technical support as required for technical products that are sold to customers by E.B. Horsman & Son. Facilitates communication between customers and suppliers to ensure that customers have clarification on any project specifications and to arrange joint sales calls. Maintains current knowledge of technical products, industry trends, and social or political influences and adjusts communication depending on customer needs.

Quotations: Determines technical specifications for customer projects. Works with Technical Inside sales to develop and provide quotations for needed customer project specifications and may input on own when necessary. Reviews quotation logs as needed and follows up with customers.

Internal Relations: Works with Technical Inside Sales to obtain pricing and data sheets for customer needs. Supports branch Account Managers with technical product expertise in order to best serve their customer product needs and conducts joint sales calls as necessary.

Training: Develops training materials and presentations for customers and branch sales representatives. Facilitates internal and external training sessions such as lunch and learns. Coordinates technical supplier training from manufacturers for the Outside Sales branch group.

Quality Control: The Business Development position has the responsibility and the authority to initiate action to prevent the recurrence of quality problems; document quality.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • A diploma or degree in an applicable field
  • 2+ years of experience in the technology industry
  • 3+ years of experience in a sales role or equivalent combination of experience in a technical sales industry
  • Reliable transportation is required – 50% of travel is expected by vehicle, flight, or ferry 
  • Intermediate computer skills, including MS Office Suite
  • Experience giving formal presentations and product pitches
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and follow-up on customer (internal and external) interactions
  • Ability to schedule and execute a short and long-term sales plan
  • Strong ability to weave industry trends into datacom business growth strategies
  • Marketing and Business Development aptitude
  • Ability to interface and communicate with a variety of customers; both internally and externally
