Field Service Technician - Ontario

Reporting to the Director, Product Training & Regulatory Affairs, the incumbent is responsible for serving the end users by commissioning and servicing systems and products, principally lighting control systems. S/he will establish commissioning or service plan by studying system requirements and specifications; gathering components and parts as per bill of material; completing installation as required; programming functions and performing acceptance tests. S/he will also provide training to end users on operation and basic maintenance of systems.

Commissioning & Servicing: 

  • Studies specifications, drawings, and bills of material for specific jobs for the purpose of integrating components into a system operating as per specifications.
  • Completes installation of equipment, components, and devices not part of the scope of work of an electrical contractor.
  • Services existing installations by analyzing work orders and modifying, adding to, or changing as per requests and complaints.
  • Conducts maintenance tests.
  • Trains end users on the operation and basic maintenance of their systems.

 Quality Assurance: 

  • Receives work requests, studies as-built diagrams, drawings, and specifications.
  • Tests and troubleshoots systems and components.
  • Determines root cause of failures of equipment to perform as intended.
  • Determines requirements to solve problems.

 Field Work Organisation: 

  • Plans for upcoming field trips; keeps tools and test equipment complete and in good working order.
  • Documents service and installation actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and records.
  • Identifies solutions, suggests improved methods and techniques to fellow field technicians.
  • Recommends system improvements to Product Management.
  • Manages competing priorities in a complex environment.
  • Uses appropriate security and safety procedures.

 Technical Sales: 

  • Promotes equipment and systems to end users as part of a technical presentation in conjunction with Sales representation, specifically in complex technical fields such as Building Automation and Energy Management.
  • Supports the sales team by advising on techniques to achieve specified functionalities in efficient and effective manners.
