Weidmuller is a leading manufacturer of electronic and electrical connectivity solutions for the transmission of power, data and control signals in industrial environments. We currently have an opening at our Markham, Ontario headquarters for a motivated Automation & Networks Product Specialist to join our team. Joining the Product Support team, the Automation & Networks Product Specialist responsibilities include assist in the sales process by serving as the company’s expert on networks, controls, instrumentation, automation products and solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide proactive technical and application assistance to customers, distributors and field sales personnel to increase sales growth.
  • Provides technical analysis capability combined with commercial sense to resolve customer application issues.
  • Serves as a resource to others for application knowledge and experiences.
  • Demonstrates strong competencies with the latest products and tools to help provide customer application solutions.
  • Visit customer and distributor sites to evaluate product service and application opportunities and issues.
  • Working alongside sales team to develop new sales opportunities for APS- Automation Products & Solutions portfolios including but not limited to: Remote I/O, Networking Communication, Wireless and Safety products.
  • Provide technical consulting for automation solutions.
  • Identify customer requirements and draft conceptual electrical / network / automation solutions that are adapted to meet customer needs.
  • Serve as a technical resource creating demand for products with Sales Representatives and Distributors.
  • Maintain a “customer first” focus.
  • Acquire a working knowledge of Weidmuller’s support organization and resource availability.
  • All other duties as assigned by manager.
  • Conducts tasks in accordance with applicable health, safety, quality, and environmental and security regulations (Provincial/Federal laws, ISO 9001 etc.) as well as Weidmuller policies and procedures.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Willingness to constantly learn and adapt to fast changing technology and challenges.
  • Effectively balances multiple priorities.
  • Professional and effective verbal and written communications including strong presentation skills across all levels. (French an asset)
  • High level of proficiency with MS Office products
  • High degree of flexibility
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, problem solving and time management skills.
  • Ability to travel (car, plane, train etc.) throughout Canada and some international travel.

Educational & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in electrical engineering with specialization in automation.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in automation.
  • Sound understanding of control panels, PLC, HMI, IPC, fieldbus technology and industrial networking protocols.
  • PLC programming experience and strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with Ethernet communications, wireless networking and PLC networking (EthernetIP and ModBus).
  • HMI/SCADA programming is an asset.
  • OPC-UA, MQTT and Java experience is an asset.
  • Previous experience in automation sales of complex products and solutions with OEMs, Project/Design related opportunities and Engineering Firms.

Working conditions:

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working.
  • Constant hand, finger and arm use.
  • Occasionally function in activities involving, bending, squatting, lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting and reaching.
  • Ability to hear clearly and speak intelligibly.
  • Exposures encountered, loud noise, heat/cold, demanding clients and high stress.
