POSITION SUMMARY:  

The Jr. Product Manager is responsible for the ShawFlex Wire & Cable product portfolio targeting Infrastructure markets.  He/she is considered the ‘center of the wheel’ in the product life cycle, owning and coordinating activities across the organization to deliver well positioned products to growth-oriented markets. 


Key Duties include:
•    Life cycle Product Management of assigned product lines and marketS
•    Detailed knowledge of customer requirements, market and competitive conditions
•    Definition & launch of new products and technologies
•    Product Marketing and Sales Support

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Product Management

  • Define and own the specifications of the product
  • Understand, quantify and develop knowledge of market growth, trends & sizing
  • Gather detailed knowledge of market conditions, customer requirements, technology trends to identify growth opportunities through sales team input, customer visits, networking, and research, 
  • Keep abreast of new technologies
  • Develop and own strategic product road map(s)
  • Support revenue forecasts for SOP and Strategic planning
  • Analyze product costs and supply chain to identify improvements and strategies
  • Identify and leverage competitive advantages in product offering
  • Guidance, maintenance and decisions on industry approvals required for product portfolio 
  • Stay abreast of relevant external specifications, including participating in industry standards development    committees 
  • Responsible for achieving product line sales growth and margin targets by coordinating with Marketing, Sales, Operations, Quality, etc.

Product Development and Launch

  • Build business cases and derive forecasts to define and justify new product and approval projects
  • Full cycle program management from conception to commercialization and beyond (AFPD to post-launch)
  • Collaborate with development team on timeline, budget and conformance to requirements
  • Marketing - Plan external messaging, value prop, differentiation
  • Act as Product Champion, orchestrating commercial launch process with sales, marketing, production and purchasing
  • Support sales team during commercial launch 

Product Marketing

  • Develop and maintain value propositions and differentiators for products
  • Actively promote company position and products through customer & prospect visits, online content, webinars and technical industry presentations/publications 
  • Contribute marketing content for collateral and presentations
  • Ensure accuracy and effectiveness of marketing collateral for products (website, datasheets, etc.)
  • Understand and document competition’ performance capabilities
  • Support definition of target markets (marketing strategy, target lists, education)
  • Develop selling tools for product selection and use
  • Identify and support trade show activities 

Sales Support

  • Identify, implement and track product approvals for key accounts/target customers 
  • Coordinate ancillary activities around high profile opportunities (i.e. RFI’s) and quotations
  • Provide/coordinate product training and technical support to sales team and reps/distributors
  • Provide on-site technical and applications support to customers and sales team
  • Utilize internal testing, application experience and research to turn benchmark data into key selling advantages
  • Review non-standard product requests
  • Define non-standard product opportunity ranking with Technology team. Act as commercial liaison to ensure highest value projects are being pursued as part of process

Administration/ Quality/Logistics

  • Support the fulfillment of the company’s quality policies IATF16949, ISO9001, QPL, ISO9100
  • Fulfill the requirements of the Shawcor HSE policy
  • Complete Monthly Report

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Materials), MBA a definite asset 
  • 3-5 years experience in Plastics/ electrical products design and application 
  • Experience in Wire and Cable manufacturing
  • Experience dealing with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders (i.e. sales, production, procurement, R&D, engineering, management, customers and suppliers) 
  • Strong experience in marketing of technical products
  • Ability to ‘crystallize’ customer needs from a large volume of information and make correct strategic choices
  • Value-focused entrepreneurial skills 
  • Knowledge of wire and cable, and related products, applications and associated digital technologies
  • Selling skills
  • Comfort with uncertainty in decision making
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, considered of high importance due to the international nature of the function
  • Ability to analyze financial statements and conduct CAPEX/ Margin calculations with sensitivity to FOREX and other economic variables
  • Ability to identify niche opportunities using knowledge of product offerings
