Field Support Technician – (A) Experienced or (B) Candidate for training

Summary:

Electrozad currently has an exciting new opportunity for a Field Support Technician reporting to the Director of Industrial Automation. The Field Support Technician will be providing on-site and off-site technical support in process and discrete manufacturing environments as part of our Electrozad SERVICES portfolio.  

Core Responsibilities:

  • Product and system start-up, system integration support, and production optimization on installed equipment and applications as well as overseeing any necessary diagnoses, troubleshooting, service “triage”, and repair/remanufacturing options for Rockwell Automation and third-party products
  • Identification, development of predictive and preventive maintenance and spare parts programs
  • Receive and handle warranty calls and service request such as repairs, inspection and product checkout
  • Provide technical assistance for sales presentations to customers. This may include product demonstrations at Electrozad offices, customer's facilities and trade shows
  • Keep clear and concise field service reports and feedback, documenting work activities in appropriate, professional report format using the supplied tools
  • Work from blueprints, drawings, Single-Line, P&ID, layouts or other specifications; locate and diagnose potential trouble in the electrical/electronic systems or equipment
  • Ensure consistent application and compliance of end user technical standards, industry standards, and electrical LOTO procedures

Qualifications: (A) Experienced applicants (B) Candidate for training

Minimum Qualifications (A)

  • A minimum of 5 years of directly related experience in Industrial Automation, Instrumentation, Electrical, process control or IT/OT.
  • Associate/bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Information Technology discipline, OR
  • Completion of a three-year Engineering Technology program discipline, or equivalent to;
    • Instrumentation & Control Engineering Technology - Industrial Automation
    • Electronics Engineering Technology - Industrial Automation
    • Chemical Production & Power Engineering Technology
    • Power Engineering Technology
    • Electrical Engineering Technology
    • Manufacturing Engineering Technology
    • Mechanical Engineering Technology
    • Power Engineering Technology

OR, Equivalent technological training and or equivalent knowledge

  • Prior experience utilizing programmable controllers, Industrial computers, Intelligent motor controls and variable frequency drives in industrial automation control systems, IT/OT
  • The ability of being self-motivated, to work safely and independently with minimal supervision and lead or take initiative on most jobs as well as being able to work well in a team-oriented environment
  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities in resolving technical problems
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational skills
  • Must have excellent negotiation, networking and conflict resolution skills
  • Must be able and willing to travel throughout the service area and work at end user sites which may require unusual work environments
  • Must be available and willing to work overtime, weekends and holidays to meet project commitments
  • Demonstrate ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing demands
  • Hands on experience with commercially available technology such as Microsoft excel, word, etc.
  • Must be able to speak with and effectively present information to internal employees (at all levels of the organization) and customers in one-on-one and group settings
  • Valid G drivers license and clean abstract and insurance required
  • Must be legally permitted to work in Canada, able to travel in the USA.

Minimum Qualifications (B):  in addition to Qualification (A)

  • Candidates must be able to attend six months of formal training in Cleveland, Ohio USA commences early January 2019. – See details below

Desired Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will require both a commercial and technical skill set for the solutions delivered in this space.
  • Experience in industrial automation, preferably in Manufacturing, Automotive, Metals, Water/Waste Water industry, Oil & Gas, Food & Beverage, Mining, BIO
  • Knowledge of maintenance practices, performance measures, maintenance systems and scheduling tools and techniques
  • Thorough understanding of electrical systems and components, associated standards and electrical safety
  • In depth knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code, and applicable legislative requirements.
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment in the maintenance of operating facilities
  • Current confined space entry, first aid, WHMIS, fall protection, CSTS-09 and OSSA certifications
  • Previous relevant experience in an Internship/Co-Op considered and asset
  • Previous Rockwell Automation experience: Considered an Asset
    • Studio5000, ControlLogix, CompactLogix (Legacy 5, 500, RSView32)
    • Variable Frequency Drives – PowerFlex products and applications
    • Ethernet/IP, Stratix Switches
    • FactoryTalk View products
    • Servo/Motion control

Work Environment:

Field Support Technicians are required to work independently for long hours at sites, plants, facilities, construction and or maintenance job locations. In the future they may also be required to work on weekends, as well as on-call emergency service support and troubleshooting assistance (24X7). Flexibility to travel 50% - 75% is required within the Chatham, Sarnia and Windsor area and the successful candidate must provide a reliable vehicle subject to reimbursement for business related expenses.  Expense reimbursement details available on request.

EIT Training Opportunity:

 Participate in Rockwell's Engineer In Training (EIT) program - an entry-level program (6 months in Cleveland, OH USA). Electrozad will provide all reasonable previously agreed upon expenses for travel, accommodations, etc. to complete this program as part of the base training.

 The Engineer in Training (EIT) program is an entry-level program to learn core Rockwell Automation product technologies and to develop fundamental field support skills. This program prepares recent graduates from around the world to be Field Support Technicians who provide services to support the installation, start-up, maintenance and operation of automation control systems, drive systems, manufacturing systems, and industrial networks for Rockwell Automation's customers.

The program includes a combination of formal classroom training and work assignments to give hands-on experience with Rockwell Automation's products and technologies. Training focuses on both technical and leadership competencies.
