Electro-Federation Canada (EFC) is a national, not-for-profit industry association that represents over 220 member companies that manufacture, distribute, market and sell a wide range of electrical products. 

We are looking for a full-time Controller at our Toronto location. 

Reporting directly to the President & CEO, the incumbent is responsible for financial management, reporting and budgeting of EFC. The Controller is also responsible for the planning, implementation and management of information systems. The incumbent manages the payroll and the insurance, health and dental benefits of the EFC employees

The duties and responsibilities for the role include, but not limited to:

  • Oversees all accounting functions, internal and external financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting;
  • Monitors and analyzes monthly operating results against budget;
  • Works with functional areas to ensure they develop realistic budgets;
  • Ensures compliance with provincial and federal financial reporting requirements;
  • Coordinates financial audits and provides recommendation for procedural improvements;
  • Manages banking relationships, reconcile bank and investment accounts;
  • Manages and makes recommendations on investment of the association’s financial reserves.
  • Develops and maintains financial accounting systems for cash management, accounts payable, account receivable and payroll functions;
  • Negotiates and manages employee insurance and benefit plans;
  • Oversees and supervises the administrative function of the association – including reception, property/facility management, and provision of equipment necessary for effective operations;
  • Oversees the management of all leases, contracts and other financial commitments;
  • In conjunction with the IT Manager, plans and leads implementation, on-going upgrade and maintenance of all EFC network and in-house computer equipment and software, including recommendations for systems solutions necessary to effectively meet member service needs; and
  • Helps keep the President appraised of industry and membership related issues.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • University degree in accounting, commerce or business management/administration;
  • CPA designation;
  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant professional experience;
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting and cost controls;
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal legislation affecting associations;
  • Previous management experience with fiscal accountability required;
  • Ability to set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details, data, information and activities;
  • Ability to assess problem situations to identify causes and make recommendations and/or resolve the issue;
  • Ability to plan and manage at both the strategic and operational levels;
  • Positively influence others to achieve results that are in the best interest of the association;
  • Demonstrates effective negotiation and collaboration skills;
  • Ability to maintain professional and positive demeanor;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under tight deadlines;
  • Fluency in French is considered an asset.
