Job Summary
S&C Electric Canada Ltd is seeking an Electrical Designer for the Metal Enclosed Switchgear design team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing wiring diagrams, approval drawings, and optimizing panel layout designs. The ideal candidate is a professional with 3 years of experience in the switchgear and power industry.
What You Will Do
- Prepare electrical three-line wiring diagrams, control and schematic drawings, Bill of Materials and control panel layout for all electrical components
- Develop source transfer control schemes for load shedding and alternate source transfers, using hard wired logic with relays like GE, Schweitzer, Schneider or with use of PLCs (typically, MV Load Break Switches and/or MV Breakers would be involved in providing the transfer operations)
- Prepare electrical approval drawings for customers, final manufacturing drawing packages, and electrical Bills of Material for switchgear manufacturing per CSA, ANSI, and UL standards
- Provide support to team members on the manufacturing floor by answering design related queries and providing solutions to problems that may arise during production to meet deadlines
- Prepare and issue engineering change notices, as required
- Develop wiring diagrams for AC and DC schematics and support various calculations such as DC Battery and Charger
- Review and interpret mechanical drawings and provide input and suggestions to optimize the arrangement of electrical control devices on panel layout designs
- Identify new control components such as relays, meters, control switches and MV components (such as breakers and instrument transformers) and add them to the Engineering Data Base
What We Are Looking For
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology
- 3 years of experience in Switchgear or Power Industry
- Working knowledge of Microstation, Solid Edge or AutoCAD
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Experience using an ERP system, preferably Oracle
- Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
- A team player who is also able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Experience with SmarTeam, Rulestream Configurator, and a wiring software, such as Promis-e, is an asset
- Working knowledge of Visual Basic and PLC Programming is an asset
